•  New company acquisition by Leica Microsystems
  The most comprehensive product portfolio for electron microscopy sample preparation
  Wetzlar, Germany / Liechtenstein / Vienna, Austria. Leica Microsystems (Wetzlar) has expanded its Electron Microscopy (“EM”) sample preparation business by making another company acquisition. On February 15, 2008, the optical company bought Bal-Tec AG based in Liechtenstein. Bal-Tec AG develops, produces and sells instruments for sample preparation in scanning electron microscopy which is an excellent match for the Leica range of transmission microscopy products. Both technologies are used
  for preparing biological, medical and industrial materials samples.

•  BAL-TEC opens a US Office
  In July 2007, BAL-TEC AG, with its worldwide headquarters in the Principality of Liechtenstein, has formed a US subsidiary corporation, BAL-TEC Inc. The new entity takes over all sales, service and support for the company’s products. BAL-TEC Inc. becomes the primary, exclusive, authorized resource in the US, and will provide customer assistance and support for all of the company’s products including the EM product line of BALZERS AG, former Balzers Union, and Bal-Tec-RMC.  BAL-TEC News.

• New High Pressure Freezer HPM 100
  BAL-TEC will launch a new generation of High Pressure Freezers at M&M 2007 in Ft. Lauderdale. The new HPM 100 is a mobile high pressure freezing workstation designed for cryo-fixation of aqueous specimens up to 200µm in thickness.
• New Triple Ion Beam Cutter TIC 020
  To be introduced at the M&M 2007 is the new Triple Ion Beam Cutter TIC 020. The TIC 020 is designed to produce large 90º slope cuts of a depth up to 1mm at  average cutting speeds  >120µm/h.  Specimens up to 50x50x10mm in size can be prepared.
